Trivoli Tavern

4.37/5

This place never disappoints. Went on Wednesday for their Wine Wednesday special and that bottle of Sancerre was so good we ended up with two (when they're half off that's just 1 bottle really, don't judge I didn't go to school for math). The ambiance is great, if you love big band 40's and 50's jazz music then this is the spot for you. Also because where else can you get crab rangoon AND pasta on the same menu?

Warm Porterhouse Rolls: 5/5 - THIS is what a bread roll should be. Soft, pillowy, dense crumb, served with black truffle honey and butter. I'd happily live on them for the rest of my days.

Crab Rangoon: 5/5 - No notes, perfectly crispy, plenty of filling, not too heavy on the cream cheese. They taste like crab filled pockets of crispy happiness (as they should).

Slow Roasted Meatballs: 4/5 - These could be a tad bit hotter, but otherwise well seasoned, great for sharing. The red sauce is a little on the sweet side for my liking but if that's your thing you'll enjoy these. Pro-Tip: roll + meatball = slider, you're welcome.

Baked Crab Cake: 5/5 - Every other crab cake can move over, this is THE one. Golden and crispy on the outside and perfectly tender, lumpy crab meat in the center. The preserved lemon and remoulade add the perfect tangy, zesty contrast.

Crispy Shrimp Roll: 3.5/5 - A serviceable roll, there's nothing wrong with it, but when compared with some of the other options on the table this one wasn't quite in the same league. I wouldn't fight someone else ordering it, but it's not high on my list.

Fries: 3.5/5 - Not a perfect score because they could be SLIGHTLY more golden and crispy.

Truffle Mafaldine: 4/5 - Basically a truffle cacio e pepe, this was delicious. Perfect for sharing, I don't think I could do this as an entrée (I know, we're shocked) as the flavor can get a little flat on its own, HOWEVER, as a part of the collective of dishes we ordered it was great.

Butterfinger Pie: 5/5 - Absolutely no notes! This is a rich, velvety, luxurious chocolate custard contrasted by a very crispy, crunchy graham cracker crust and Butterfinger bits topped by what should be an illegal amount of meringue considering the price of eggs these days. No seriously, the amount of egg whites that goes into this must be short of criminal.
